🔎 Who am I?

My name is Mathew, and I work as an ML Engineer at Apple on Siri’s geo searching capabilities. I am based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Prior to that:

2021 - 2025	I worked at LinkedIn on their retrieval and ranking algorithms for their largest search vertical, People Search. My most significant contributions include: building multi-objective optimization, getting semantic search capabilities to its first public release, and defining the early work for agentic worflows at LinkedIn.
2018 - 2021	I was building real-time NLP systems at brain.ai, where I played a key role bringing their natural language interface from prototype to a first public release on the App Store.
2017 - 2018	I worked as a Data Scientist at Quora, where I analyzed experiments to help drive user engagement in the question-asking experience.
2016 - 2017	I worked at Simon Fraser University as an undergraduate researcher, in Dr. Jiannan Wang's Data Science Research Group. We published a paper to VLDB in 2019.
Before 2017	I meandered my way through SFU's engineering, math, and computer science departments. I might write about that in the future.
